The fourth leg of MIPS – resource use and cost – will account for 10 percent of MIPS scores for the 2018 reporting year. The category had zero effect on scores in 2017 and is designed to create efficiencies in Medicare spending. CMS gleans data requirements from claims submission.
Though resource use and cost only accounts for 10 percent of the composite MIPS score, those factors are expected to increase to 30 percent of the score by 2021.
