Dementia: young and old, we all fear it. September is World Alzheimer’s Month. A new report by Alzheimer’s Disease International looks at modifiable risk factors for dementia. The report focuses on four key areas: developmental, psychological and psychosocial, lifestyle and cardiovascular conditions.
If we can all enter old age with healthier brains, we are likely tolive longer, happier and more independent lives with a much reduced chance of developing dementia.
With an estimated global societal economic cost of dementia of over US $600 billion, and rising, the stakes could hardly be higher.
The report identified 5 simple ways you can start now to improve your health and reduce your risk of developing dementia:
- Look after your heart
- Be physically active
- Follow a healthy diet
- Challenge your brain
- Enjoy social activity
