Improvement in Bathing

Improvement in bathing is demonstrated by an increase in the number of patients who improve or maintain the ability to bathe. Higher percentages are better.

Certain abilities needed to function independently can be developed or maintained by managing symptoms or through physical or occupational therapy. Bathing ability is especially important if there are no caregivers to assist the patient when the home health care ends.

Home health staff needs to evaluate the need for any special assistance devices or equipment and train patients on their use. If a patient can perform this activity with little assistance, they are more independent, self-confident, and active.
